While you are putting your winter gear away, the change in season does not only mean a change in wardrobe but an opportunity to revamp your interior.
From summer patio dining to lounging in the garden, here are some tips from the Rumor Design team for stylish summer decor. To reflect the brighter sunlight during the summer months, the Rumor Design + ReDesign team loves using little elements like pattern and color to make your space more interesting and brighten it up. Rather than choosing a single design element to focus on, we love approaching summer interior decor styling with a curation of patterns, colors, textures and fabrics.
Transitional Spaces
The Rumor Design + Redesign showroom is a multi-functional and stylish place to gather. By designing transitional spaces throughout, including a retail store, coffee shop and an inspirational area, we created a versatile atmosphere. As more families are using their homes for work and play, transitional spaces are trending. Utilize windows, colors, area rugs and statement pieces to define and separate spaces for your summer hobbies, family time and lounging. Valerie Stafford loves having a transitional space, and while reflecting on Rumor Design + Redesigns new aesthetic, she feels ”It’s much more inspiring now that we ourselves can walk through the showroom, and it’s constantly changing.” Valerie also recommends changing up your interior decor seasonally to refresh you space, and believes that “when you move something you see it in a new light, take a desk for example”.
A Staycation Vacation
As the sun stays out longer and temperatures become warmer, people are leaning more towards dining at home than going to reservations. Patio furniture, prints, and outdoor/ indoor transitional seating are great summer interior design staples to bring all of the elements you would leave the house to enjoy to your home. For her staycation style, Rumor Designer Lindsey Jamison loves Cottagecore and describes the trend evolution originating from the idea of slowed-down rural life. Use reclaimed wood pieces, and integrate vintage heirlooms and rustic finishes into your design to get a cottage aesthetic from the comfort of home.

Natural Woods, Air, and Light
Enjoy cabin and wood accessories without having cabin fever, by opting for as many natural elements as possible within your environment. As the world becomes more health conscious, there is a global shift towards air quality, vitamin D, and sunlight exposure. Integrating windows and open-concept spaces within your interior design creates opportunities for natural lighting and ventilation within your space. During the summer months, give the artificial lighting a break and bask near some windows. Examining your space to focus on airflow and lighting is an opportunity to integrate some luxurious details into your decor. Focus on window and door accent furniture with avant-garde shapes and accessories with lustrous and elegant lines.
Biophilic Design
Studies show that outdoor views and spaces that focus on our connection to nature and the environment have extremely positive effects on our mental health and overall well-being. During the summertime, spaces that provide views through the use of doors and windows, are in demand. The Rumor team loves using green, organic textures, and patterns found in nature within our designs. Focus on earth tones, warm color palettes, and light woods. Using re-claimed finishes can elevate your summer decor aesthetic to another level. “Many of our designs feature repurposed existing finishes, reclaimed tile, and refinished original cabinets.” Lindsey Jamison says.
Garden Desks and Bench Desks
Summer is here, and many of us are still working from home. However, working from home does not mean that you have to stay inside. Many are turning to garden desks and bench desks to maximize their time outside during the summertime, and take advantage of the beautiful weather. On our recent trip to England, the Rumor team fell in love with the outdoor/ indoor transitional patio pieces at Roche Bobois. From exotic colors and textures to lush fabrics and woodwork, this summer collection has pieces to make your garden office and desk shine. Opt for pieces with aged stone pottery. Whether you are going for a surf-big chill summer aesthetic or designing a romantic, vintage cottage escape, Rumor suggests not being afraid of mixing things up when it comes to your design styles.
