Everyone loves a rustic cabin getaway, but these homeowners wanted to stay awhile longer. Our clients came to Rumor in search of a way to preserve that cozy cabin feel with an upgrade to accommodate their modern lifestyle.
The approximately 1,000sq. ft. space allows room for three spacious bedrooms, two full baths and one new powder bath added just off the entry. As a downsize from their former Steamboat home, the new owners can still host family and grandchildren without the extra housework and multi levels that no longer suit their needs.
The original log structure provided excellent bones for the renovation. Board and batten were added throughout the interior to achieve a consistent cabin-like feel. All new windows were required for thermal efficiency, all interior doors were replaced, and all new hardwood floors were installed throughout the home.
The kitchen and bathrooms were gutted out of necessity, and provided an opportunity to reimagine the layout, allowing for better flow from the kitchen to the living room. Beautiful tile, zero entry shower design, new vanities and lighting make each bathroom feel fresh and modern. The master bath became its own small suite with an added barn door to close off from the master bedroom. The plaid tile selected for the master shower adds interest to the space with a fun mountain modern flair.
A balance between the old and new were critical to capturing that rustic cabin vibe. We selected soft green custom cabinetry in the kitchen to mirror the outdoors, yet not outshine its natural beauty. Gorgeous quartz countertops keep the kitchen fresh and bright, while gold hardware and plumbing ground the space with earthy, natural metal tones. We kept the original freestanding fireplace unit, adding stone with a heavy smeared grout to achieve a cozy cottage aesthetic, and paired built-in shelving on either side to balance the living room.
Layered with textured accessories from bedding and rugs, to leather furniture and soft upholstered bed frames, the space feels warm, cohesive and inviting, no matter what your style may be. This Steamboat Styled Cabin is a testament to the result of smart interior design that enhances the existing feel and history of a home while layering the new generation of personality for these homeowners to enjoy for years to come.
