“over the edge”
Next time you find yourself heading down BC Ski Way, take a look to your right and you’ll see one of the most interesting properties on Steamboat Mountain. We referred to this project as “Over the Edge” through the design process because it truly sits over the edge of the ski resort. Previously a rental property that hosted business retreats and family vacations alike, our team was tasked with transforming this house into a residential family home. Over the course of eight months, we were able to create a modern mountain sanctuary filled with fun details and incredible finishes.
Our clients wanted to keep the bones of the house intact and work with the home’s existing architecture and certain features like fireplaces. THey also desired a lighter more contemporary feel so we started with wall treatments and adjustments to the fireplace. The entryway of the home is wallpapered in a stunning multi story mural, the tallest we have ever planned and the tallest our installer had ever done (over five stories in total!) and carries over into the dining area. This mural really set the tone for how unique this home was going to become. We installed custom design details throughout this project from a one of a kind breakfast bench area to fully bespoke home gym, complete with an indoor golf simulator and a rock climbing wall.
This project was a joy to work on in more ways than one… there might’ve been a ski break or two involved. But we were also able to play with different colors and layer unique textures throughout the house. We carefully designed each space, maintaining a crisp, fun feeling that carried throughout the home. Overall we sought to achieve the client’s vision through clean lines, a subtle nod to mid century mod, and elegant custom design elements.
