When you’ve lived in a home for 20 years, the space starts to wear with you, especially after raising kids, a few family dogs and hosting annual events for extended family and friends. The homeowners lived a rich life in their Steamboat home and were past ready for a remodel when they consulted with Rumor Designs about the vision for their new space.
Untouched since the 90’s when the home was built, gold toned wood, brass fixtures, and floral upholstery comprised the dated looking interior that was starting to make the homeowners embarrassed to invite friends over. The goal of the redesign was to tackle major functional pain points in the kitchen, guest bathrooms, the master suite, bath, closet and the entry to the home.
Now complete, the interior is mountain contemporary with clean lines, taupe tones, and a spa-like master suite. Our design team presented the homeowners with a strategic plan of action, sharing mood boards, material samples and a timeline and schedule of subcontractor work that would take place over four months.
Some changes were a simple fix, such as painting the wood window trim black, refinishing the existing hardwood flooring, reupholstering a tired dining nook, and painting built-ins to look like new. We also removed the wood railings that were a focal point in the main gathering area and replaced them with a sleek metal, custom stair railing design. The small changes made a huge impact on the overall aesthetic of the home, giving it a luxurious upgrade without gutting the space and using all new materials.
